Last week marked a significant milestone for Gnosis Chain when the network clocked in over 200,000 validators securing the network. Gnosis Chain is the second largest proof-of-stake blockchain by active validator count right behind Ethereum. The achievement marks a major step forward for Gnosis Chain in its mission to advance Ethereum’s core tenets around credible neutrality and censorship resistance. By enabling accessibility to a wide demographic of at-home validators, Gnosis has cultivated a flourishing ecosystem that spans over 70 countries and 5 continents.
Looking forward to 2024, Gnosis is leveraging the decentralisation of Gnosis Chain to launch and grow Gnosis Pay, a self custodied electronic cash system that is built on the core values of crypto. Additionally, Gnosis Chain is scheduled to perform the Dencun upgrade on March 11, 2024 - two days ahead of Ethereum, a notable achievement that secures Gnosis Chain’s 1:1 parity with Ethereum. Dencun will significantly increase the scalability and efficiency of both Gnosis Chain and Ethereum. 2024 will also see the launch of the Shutterized Gnosis Chain, an encrypted mempool on Gnosis Chain, marking a huge step towards making Gnosis Chain fundamentally more censorship and MEV resistant.

💭 ⛓️ Limits on Leveraging Decentralization
Gnosis Co-Founder, Martin Köppelmann, wrote a post on the limits of leveraging decentralization. Köppelmann makes the argument that a geographically diverse set of validators is not the only key to making Ethereum (and by extension Gnosis Chain) decentralized - it's about coordination. He states that decentralization, "can only come from a diverse set of actors that all have to coordinate and agree to opt-in to a proposed change(s)."
