Welcome to the final Gnosis Weekly of 2025. This was the year Gnosis moved from the "infra layer" to the "everyday layer." But before we dive into the 12-month highlights, we have a critical update for our node operators regarding the upcoming Hard Fork.

🚨 Urgent: Balancer Hard Fork Update

Following the $128M Balancer exploit in November, Gnosis Chain is executing a Hard Fork to return approximately $9.4 million in frozen funds to affected users.

While a previous soft fork successfully "trapped" these funds on-chain, this hard fork is the final step to unlock and distribute them back to the victims. This move reinforces Gnosis’s commitment to being a user-first, resilient network.

  • Deadline: 22nd December 2025 at 16:11:40 UTC.
  • Action Required: All node operators must update to the minimum client versions below. Nodes not following the majority stake will face penalties.

🗓️ 2025: The Year in Review

2025 was the year that Gnosis completed its pivot to becoming a consumer facing brand and solidified its mission of bridging the gap between blockchain technology and practical, everyday applications for the masses. After years of building some of the most battle-tested infrastructure in the Ethereum ecosystem with Safe and Cow Swap, Gnosis launched a suite of consumer products on top of its open stack so that users own the rails they transact on. 

Building open systems that put the user first has always been a north star for us. Now, we’re building unstoppable products with killer UX without cutting corners on the promise of blockchain tech: effortless self-custody with rewards that introduce better money, and rails that stay credibly neutral at scale.

Here’s the breakdown of this momentous year where Gnosis hit escape velocity by making inroads to accessing customers and businesses beyond web3.

💳 Consumer Applications & Adoption

We transitioned from "Web3 infrastructure" to "Everyday utility," reaching users and businesses far beyond the crypto bubble.

  • Gnosis Pay Evolution: Launched in Brazil (April), enabling thousands to spend crypto at local merchants with zero FX fees.
  • B2B SDK: Released the Gnosis Pay SDK (July), empowering any business to integrate white-label cards and stablecoin payroll.
  • Volume Milestones: Surpassed $100M in lifetime transaction volume in October and processed our 2 millionth real-world payment in December.
  • The Gnosis App: Soft-launched to the waitlist in November, uniting self-custody with a seamless mobile banking experience.
  • Gnosis Business: Formally rebranded the HQ acquisition into Gnosis Business, providing a dedicated B2B arm for corporate cards and expense management.

⛓️ Technical Milestones & Infrastructure

Reliable infrastructure remains our backbone. In 2025, we celebrated a decade of uptime while pushing the boundaries of throughput.

  • 10 Years of Gnosis: Celebrated a decade of building in August, crossing 300 million lifetime transactions on Gnosis Chain with zero downtime.
  • The Pectra Upgrade: Successfully activated on Gnosis Chain in April, pushing throughput past 2x previous levels and introducing native account abstraction.
  • Trust-Based Currencies: Launched Circles v2 (May) and the Circles SDK v1 (November), which crossed 10,000 active humans in just weeks.

🤖 AI & Agent Economy

Gnosis continues to lead the "Agentic Web," ensuring AI moves on-chain securely.

  • Safe Watch Agent: The AI team open-sourced this agent in June, providing a 24/7 proactive defense layer that monitors Safe wallets and blocks malicious transactions before execution.

🌍 Strategic Growth

We united our product suite under a single, coherent story: Ownership by Default.

  • The 2025 Rebrand: Launched a new visual identity and the rallying cry: "Fork Banks. Bank On Gnosis." in November.
  • Real-World Assets (RWA): Launched ZCHF in partnership with Zeal in September—the first fully collateralized, yield-bearing Swiss franc stablecoin.

💡 The Post-Bank Future

As we look toward 2026, the sentiment is clear: Infrastructure is only as good as the problems it solves. We learned that the real world doesn't care about "decentralization" as a buzzword, it cares about self-custody that works like magic. We're not building onchain banks. We're building the post-bank future.
